Is $2,999 to build a deck with pergola (DIY) a fair price?
Project Details
I posted the build a while back and am now sharing the stained and decorated final product. I know the steps aren't up to code, but I have an old dog that likes them this way. I'm also aware the fire pit could be a safety concern, but we keep fires small, don't have kids, and avoid fires when it's dry or windy. I am already adding beams to the top of the pergola to add stability. All said and done, the DIY project cost me just under $3k and took about 3 weeks. I used PT GC lumber and Cutek stain with rustic gold pigment. I'm hoping to get at least 5 years out of it, which is significantly cheaper than the $25k quote I was given by a local contractor. The sunshade is a $30 item I'll replace as needed. The long-term plan is to figure out how to replace the sun shade with a hard top, but I'm currently out of time, energy, and money. So far, rain seems to pass right through the current setup. The beams I'm adding should help mitigate pooling, but it's not a long-term solution. I'm also struggling to figure out how to make an angled roof out of the existing setup.
