Is $3,600 to demo and haul away existing deck a fair price?
Project Details
My wife and I are closing on a house that has a large, new (8-12 months old) 450 sq ft Trex deck. Inspections revealed that the septic tank, which is underneath the deck, is crushed and needs to be replaced. Local building codes prohibit rebuilding the deck in the same spot. I'm trying to decide if it's worth paying extra to salvage the Trex boards, and I'm wondering about the resale market for used Trex and if a contractor would charge more to build a new deck with salvaged, non-virgin lumber that might have damage or screw holes, potentially resulting in an inferior product.
