Is $8,000 to install flooring in 1350 sq ft townhome with stairs a fair price?

Project Details

I am a complete newbie to working with my hands. I am under contract for this townhome. I am 25 and feel like this flooring project might be something I can take on myself, especially since the quote was $8k and includes taking up the old carpet, which doesn't seem too hard. I'm looking for advice on what tools I would need, general tips, and recommendations for good flooring types. This townhome will be a long-term rental in a year, so that should be kept in mind. I'm also wondering about a good starter kit of tools for general use around the house. I'm planning to google flooring stores and check marketplace for pre-owned tools. I like the idea of preparing the subfloor myself to create a blank canvas if I decide to hire professionals later.
