Is $1,200 to replace the AC fan motor a fair price?

Project Details

My AC unit is 20 years old. Last winter, it started making a whirring noise when running the heater, but it went away after a few days. I ran the system for a few days without realizing the AC had an issue, and the technician said I could have damaged the compressor by running the unit without a fan. I'm not comfortable installing the motor myself, and I'm asking if the pricing is reasonable and if it's worth replacing the whole unit now.

Replace the AC fan motor

This option involves replacing the existing fan motor of the AC unit. The current motor was jammed and, after being unsticked, does not sound optimal.
