Is $8,000 to replace condenser and furnace (R22 system) a fair price?

Project Details

I have a 1989 Carrier Air Condenser that is 35 years old and leaking R22 refrigerant. It runs for about 30 seconds and stops. The furnace is also 35 years old but seems to be running fine. I recently had the R22 refilled for $700, but it leaked out in about a month. I'm questioning why the furnace needs to be changed with the condenser and am leaning towards just repairing the leak. I perform basic maintenance like changing filters and cleaning ducts but haven't had professional service in 15 years.
