Is $3,500 to replace a failed AC compressor a fair price?

Project Details

My Ruud air conditioner, which was installed about 4 years ago for close to $10,000, completely failed yesterday. I heard a loud buzzing noise, and when I tried to turn it on, the compressor would click once, then hum, but the fans wouldn't spin, and only hot air came out. An AC technician confirmed the compressor failed. The unit is supposedly still under a 10-year parts warranty, but I was quoted $3,500 for the repair. I'm concerned this sounds like an awful lot, especially with the warranty, as online research suggests compressor replacement with parts and labor typically costs around $2,500. I'm looking for input to ensure I'm not being taken advantage of.
