Is $9,000 to insulate the ceiling of my barndo a fair price?
Project Details
I live off-grid full-time in a barndo. The previous owners used this place only in the spring, summer and early fall as a cabin, and audibly gave reassurance there is sufficient insulation for the winters throughout, but it's not even close! I was in the loft, putting items away for storage, when my flashlight reflected off bare metal. So, I visually searched the entire ceiling/roof, and found not even a 1/4 inch of insulation in some spots and maybe 1 inch in others! It's getting down to the teens at night, and condensation is rapidly flowing in the late mornings. After reading posts, I understand why we have so much condensation. The quote of $9,000+ for the ceiling alone is unaffordable for me. I am looking for suggestions on a fix for and during these next very cold months. My off-grid heating sources include a propane ventless wall mounted heater used for 10-20 minutes MAX for the cold mornings, and our wood burning stove, where we ONLY burn seasoned local red oak.
