Is $10,000 to remove old attic insulation, air seal, and blow in new cellulose a fair price?
Project Details
I was recently quoted around 10k and change for attic insulation work. I'm considering doing it myself. I've never done insulation work before but I'm pretty handy and willing to take time off work. My wife can help man the blower on evenings or weekends. I've read up on using tenmat covers, spray foaming gaps, and racking up measuring sticks. I'm not planning on removing a ton of existing insulation if possible. The sales rep mentioned contaminated insulation, but I didn't notice anything super horrible when installing Ethernet. I have no equipment and would need to get PPE, a spray gun, etc. I might get the blower free with insulation purchase. There are some raised ceilings over the master that cut into attic access with recessed lighting at the far end, which will make crawling difficult. I'm unsure if the existing insulation is cellulose or fiberglass and assume I'll need more PPE if it's fiberglass. I'm concerned about the lifespan of cellulose and would rather not redo the house in 15 years.
