I am getting quotes on a new roof and trying to decide between asphalt and steel shingles. I was in the trades for 35 years, so I understand shingle warranties. I am pushing 60 and believe I might only need to roof one more time in my life. Financially, I am leaning towards the Owens Corning option, as it seems smarter to keep the $47,000 difference in my investment account and let the interest cover a future roof replacement.
