Is $85,000 to enter into a 25-year PPA for a 19.125kW solar system a fair price?
Project Details
I live in SW Virginia. My current utility bill averages around $350 a month, and another rate increase is expected by year end. My roof has at least 25 years of life, possibly 40 years with 50-year shingles, so the roof should last until the PPA is up. My utility has net metering, but they are proposing changes to eliminate the 1:1 rate, and I'm trying to get grandfathered into the 1:1 rate. I don't have the knowledge or time for a DIY install, and I'm not keen on any money down. I like the idea of someone else maintaining breakdowns and issues, but I also realize I'm relying on them for that. I'm definitely going to reach out to other companies and am still looking for a no upfront cost option or a self-financed option to pay upfront. The quote came back at $286 a month, but I feel I could get more for the $85,000 over 25 years, or pay way less for what's provided based on other quotes and information. The biggest challenge seems to be finding an installer in this part of the state due to the strong coal heritage.
