Is $15,000 to install a 6kW solar panel system a fair price?
Project Details
I currently pay on average $250 for 450 kWh a month. My power cost is 13c/kWh plus fees, with approximately $40-50 a month in set fees and the rest usage-based. I'm looking to see if a $125 drop in my power bill average could cover the system cost for the first 10 years, leading to real savings for the next 20 years of panel guarantee. I understand that transmission fees are usage-based and will decrease with solar, but they are not paid back when selling power to the grid. Similarly, delivery fees are not paid back. The special 30c and 8.5c rates are part of a solar program available only after installation. There are size regulations based on previous usage, so I plan to reduce my usage after installation rather than before. I am not necessarily looking to save money in the first 10 years; if it close to covers itself, I am okay with that.
