Is $8,000 to install two patio doors and repair siding/sheathing a fair price?
Project Details
I'd appreciate help in vetting my contractor's work. I paid more than $8000 for two patio doors and repair work to siding/sheathing, which the contractor still hasn't done. I'm concerned about the quality of the installation, specifically that screws aren't flush, the caulking is sloppy and leaves openings, and the door moves when locked, allowing air leakage. I also questioned the absence of flashing tape. The contract is vague on materials, only stating 'Includes all necessary interior trim and exterior capping.' I had expected the professional to use the right tools and materials for a proper fit, which I now realize shows my inexperience. After watching a how-to video, I believe my reachout locks are incorrectly installed, as the lock button isn't aligned, and I expect any lock to pull the active panel tight. I'm referring to the interior perimeter where the sill meets the finished floor for the caulk gap, expecting it to be continuous to stop air/bug infiltration. The contractor will visit today, and I plan to raise these issues.

The homeowner has raised several concerns regarding the quality of the installation: - The repair work to the siding/sheathing is incomplete. - Screws are not flush with the surface. - Caulking is sloppy and leaves openings, particularly where the sill meets the finished floor, which could allow air and bug infiltration. - The doors move by a few millimeters when locked, leading to air leakage. - The locks appear to be incorrectly installed, with the lock button not aligned, preventing the active panel from pulling tight.
