Is $19,000 to remodel a bathroom a fair price?

Project Details

I hired a general contractor for a bathroom remodel. The grout in my shower is running out and has cavities, and the tile work has inconsistent grout lines. It took over a week from grout completion until the shower head and knob were installed. My contractor claims this is normal and offered to patch the existing grout, but I am concerned the grout was improperly mixed and needs to be scraped out and redone. Half of the $19,000 job has been paid, with the remainder due at completion. Most of the job is covered by insurance. I suspect the tiler was rushed due to the contractor being behind schedule.

Quote Details

This quote is for a full bathroom remodel. The work included tile installation and grouting. However, issues have been identified with the grout, which is running out and has cavities. Additionally, the tile work exhibits inconsistent grout lines (some over, some under 1/8 inch). There was also a delay of over a week between grout completion and the installation of the shower head and knob.

Remodel two bathrooms (labor only)

This quote is for the labor associated with remodeling two bathrooms. The homeowner purchased all materials separately. Initially, issues arose with visible grid lines on the penny tile floor and misaligned penny tile on the walls. The contractor initially stated that grid lines are always visible, suggested using white grout, and claimed the chosen penny tile was not intended for floors. Following homeowner feedback and concerns, the contractor committed to rectifying the issues. The scope of work now includes: - Ripping out and replacing the penny tile floor. - Re-grouting the bathroom walls. - Re-setting some wall tiles as needed. - Specific design pattern for penny tile (flower design) was discussed. - Grout color was switched from charcoal to platinum to improve contrast.
