Is $3,500 to frame and tile a shower a fair price?

Project Details

It is all labor. We are gutting the bathroom ourselves. So he is only framing and tiling the shower. We are purchasing material and will be going with him to the store to purchase, once we have the size of the shower framed out. We do have everything already picked out. This has been in the works for about 3 years and we finally found a guy we can trust that is willing to do it. We’re thinking of giving the 1k upfront, then 1k to start, and 1.5k once the tile is ready to shower. He broke down the cost of each item he will be doing, so thinking of just breaking it up by that. I’m looking for a template of a contract I can write up to document all of this. This is an extremely small bathroom. And we are only contracting out the shower work, we are doing the rest ourselves. This is our first time ever contracting someone out so we have no idea what to expect! 6-7k is the average quote we have been given from 4 different contractors for only our shower. He is a license and insured contractor that has done this for over 15 years. Long time family friend.
