Is $37,000 to complete deck rebuild with cable railing and picture frame a fair price?
Project Details
I hired a company to build a deck, and it appears they subcontracted the work to an Amish crew. The project is currently paused because they are waiting for the correct parts for the cable railing, which they said the manufacturer did not send. I have noticed several issues during the build: - The stairs are not flush, and the kickboard does not cover the whole rise. Joist tape was used on the rest of the deck but not the steps. - A corner of the header and joist is not flush. - The blocking for the middle board and picture frame seems like water might sit under the deck boards. The contractor stated they do all their decks like this. - The stair fascia is not one piece and looks tacky. I also had to remind them that the deck was supposed to have a picture frame border and flashing over the header connected to the house, as they initially installed the decking without it. The permit was approved, but no inspector has been out yet. The deck design is similar to the previous one but squared off on the left side, which was originally angled. The stair placement is unusual due to the door and driveway setup, as it's the only entry from the deck. The Amish crew worked early hours for a few days but have been gone while waiting for the railing parts and doing other jobs. There have been some material mishaps and weather delays.
