Is $1,200 to split the cost of a uniform vinyl fence with neighbors a fair price?

My boyfriend and I live in an end unit townhouse. Part of the neighborhood already has a uniform vinyl fence, which ends at our next-door neighbors. Our neighbors want to continue this fence along our shared property line and are willing to split the cost. I am fine with the fence, as it's not our forever home and we plan to sell in 5-10 years. However, my boyfriend hates the fence and prefers that the neighbors build it slightly on their property, with us building our own fence later, resulting in a double fence. He believes no fence at all would be better for resale value. I think splitting the cost makes more sense financially. We moved in about a year and a half ago, and these are new builds, so these are the first fences going up. We do not have an HOA. We are in a townhouse subdivision with close houses and a large backyard that needs dividing. My boyfriend is against this specific fence and would want to build a different one on that side anyway.
