Is $4,500 to level subfloor for LVP installation a fair price?
Project Details
I'm nearing the finish line on a full first floor remodel of my 80s built home. The LVP flooring installers refused to proceed because the subfloors weren’t level. I was told I'd need to spend an additional $4,500 to rip up the subfloor and replace five joists. I get that parts of the floor aren’t perfectly level (they never actually told me how unlevel), but this seems extreme. The company they recommended only has 3 Google reviews, and I’m not finding much online about similar situations. I'm wondering how level the subfloor really needs to be for LVP, if sanding/compound typically works, and if this kind of upsell is common.
