Is $25,000 to secure a basement wall to prevent sinking a fair price?
Project Details
I am currently under contract on a new construction home and had a foundation specialist come out to inspect the foundation just to be safe. He claimed that one of the walls in the middle of the basement is 1/2 inch lower than the rest and believed it to be sinking. The builder claims there are no structural issues and that the middle wall only supports the floor above, not the foundation or roof. I also managed to get a structural engineer on the phone who said there wouldn't be a great way to tell if it's sinking unless you remeasured it 6 months later. There is some slight cracking in the basement floor but nothing on the walls.
