Is $4,950 to replace a 26-year-old 5-ton AC unit with a new Lennox 5-ton unit a fair price?

Project Details

My old 26-year-old 5-ton AC unit was freezing up due to a refrigerant leak. I had removed the air filter to troubleshoot this issue. During the installation of the new Lennox unit, I overheard the installer having issues with 'levels' while checking refrigerant, and I'm concerned that the missing air filter during this test could have affected the results. I'm also worried this might impact the promised efficiency gains, as my old unit was drawing too many amps. I have cats and previously changed MERV 13 filters every 6 months based on the previous owners' schedule, but I'm now questioning if this is the correct frequency or MERV rating for my situation.
