Is $1,600 to install a new AC fan with factory parts a fair price?
Project Details
My AC started having issues about a month ago, where the air stopped being cool in the late afternoon on hot days. Initially, spraying the coils helped, but later it didn't. A tech determined the refrigerant was low and charged it for $650. The issue recurred, and on a second visit, the tech suggested a new variable fan motor, a smart thermostat issue, or a hard start kit. I opted for the hard start kit for $250, but the problem persists, especially on days over 100 degrees. I've noticed spraying the compressor with water makes it work again, suggesting it might be overheating. I've spent nearly $1000 on repairs and am considering replacing the unit entirely as I plan to sell the house in two years.
