Is $2,256 to repair a York AC unit's variable speed fan motor a fair price?
Project Details
I was having AC problems where the house was not cooling efficiently, and the outdoor unit's fan was not spinning at full speed, leading to short cycling. The house blows cool air, but not cold. A technician diagnosed it as a complex issue with the variable speed fan motor, which York has had problems with, where the speed gets locked. I was told I need a new fan and motor, but the old one isn't made anymore, requiring an expensive compatible one. The AC unit itself is 8 years old. I'm concerned the quoted price of $2,256.25 seems high compared to other fan motor replacements I've seen, which are typically under $800. I'm looking for advice on the price and whether to disclose the previous quote when seeking a second opinion. The initial diagnosis cost me $300, which goes towards the repair.
