Is $500 to install a blower motor surge protector (ECM) a fair price?
Project Details
My air handler blower motor recently went out, even though it was installed in 2021. The replacement is covered, but the technician wants to install a $500 motor surge protector. I've looked online and it seems easy to install myself. I'm considering Rector Seal and am looking for suggestions. The unit isn't replaced yet, and I'm wondering if I should ask for this when it is.

Replace ECM to Lennox blower motor
My HVAC technician quoted me for the replacement of the ECM (Electronically Commutated Motor) to my Lennox blower motor. The original ECM was fried due to a power surge from a lightning strike. The quote includes both the new part and the labor for installation. The unit was outside of its standard 5-year warranty, and the extended 10-year warranty did not transfer to me as the second owner, as it was registered before September 1, 2021, when the Texas statute allowing transfers was passed. - Work: Replace ECM to blower motor - Components: New ECM part - Service: Labor for installation - Original Unit Brand: Lennox - Cause of Damage: Power surge from lightning strike
