Is $600 to thaw and repair furnace condensation line a fair price?
Project Details
My furnace stopped working during the coldest day in VA. I was missing 3 covers on my foundation vents. I feel that the $600 charge for the repair is high, especially since $100 was for same-day emergency service and the repair seems to be a patch rather than a long-term solution. I attempted to use a heat cable from Amazon, but received two defective units, so I gave up and insulated the pipe myself. I'm nervous about whether I wrapped the correct pipe/tube. I'm considering encapsulating the crawl space, as there is no room for it anywhere else in my 1000 sq ft cottage. I'm also wondering if I can insulate or protect the pump itself and the trap. It does not normally get below 20 degrees Fahrenheit here.

Blow out a condensation line
The service involved blowing out the condensation line. The homeowner observed that the technician did not separate the glued PVC, which may have caused compressed air to go back into the furnace. The service reportedly took only 15 minutes, and the technician did not check the exterior line for debris.
Replace condensation pump
Replace the condensation pump on the unit in the garage, as it was allegedly sounding bad.
