Is $2,000 to replace a circuit board in my central air outdoor unit a fair price?
Project Details
I live in a rural area and my 5.5-year-old central air outdoor unit had a massive mouse nest in it. I'm conflicted on what to do, as the argument for a new unit makes sense, but $5k is a bit steep. I don’t know if I’m being ripped off and am unclear on the best path forward. My HVAC guy also does my plumbing work, and I like him, but I don't have a lot of knowledge about HVAC issues. I'm also wondering if the warranty would be voided by a mouse on the board.
Quote Details
This option involves repairing the existing 5.5-year-old central air outdoor unit. The current unit's warranty expires in September, and the board replacement is not covered due to mouse damage. My current system is going out of production next year, meaning future issues would require a full system replacement (indoor and outdoor units).- New circuit board: Mitsubishi T7WB50323 (costing $1000 for parts)- Labor: Cleaning out the unit and installing the new board- Contingency: HVAC technician notes that there may be more issues than just the board, which can only be determined after the board is replaced and tested.
