Is $5,000 to replace AC coils a fair price?

Project Details

My AC system stopped getting cold a couple of days ago. I live in Las Vegas. I checked the circuit breaker in the main panel, which I installed in August 2023, and it's fine. I swapped 40 amp and 35 amp breakers, but they only turned on the fan. When I set a cold temperature, I hear a click at the AC, but no actual cooling noise. The fan works, and the fins are clean. I tried to look at the capacitor, but it was bolted down. From inside, it sounds like the unit is working, but it's not getting cold.

Replace the AC coil

The technician indicated that the existing AC system likely has a bad coil, possibly due to a leak previously identified with dye. This option involves replacing the faulty coil.
