Is $5,000 to replace the AC coil a fair price?

Project Details

Last summer, my AC stopped making cold air, and a company recharged it, suspecting a leak and a bad coil. A year later, it stopped again. A new company found a bad capacitor, which fixed the immediate issue. However, the technician also confirmed the likelihood of a bad coil, possibly from a previous dye test. My current system is 12 years old. The technician also mentioned that my original furnace was installed incorrectly and needs to be elevated on a box to ensure full airflow, otherwise it causes inefficiency and higher energy bills. I need a 5-ton system. I'm weighing the benefits of a new, more efficient system with a 10-year warranty against the high cost, as I don't want to spend that much right now, especially since the system is only 12 years old.

Quote Details

The technician indicated that the existing AC system likely has a bad coil, possibly due to a leak previously identified with dye. This option involves replacing the faulty coil.
