Is $30,000 to install mini splits downstairs and central air upstairs a fair price?

Project Details

My girlfriend and I just bought our first house and are looking at installing AC/Heat. We got quotes from several different companies but noticed a pretty big difference between the two main companies around here. Our house is roughly 1370 sq ft, two stories with 4 bedrooms upstairs and one bedroom, kitchen, living room downstairs. The living room has a high vaulted ceiling. I'm wondering why the quotes were so different and which one is more efficient. If we have to pay more, we will, but it seems weird that the placements would be reversed like that. We’re looking at maybe getting a house fan, since yeah the prices are crazy. The main driver of the pricing is the lack of any ductwork in the house at all, so they have to cut in everything and then put all the units in place. I was definitely thinking a central system would make more sense but I guess since our house roof is sloped so severely (like half an A-Frame) it makes it hard to run ducts to upstairs is what I was told. I’m not an expert by any means, though. Primarily I just want to get something done before the heat of summer starts.
