Is $1,500 to install an air scrubber a fair price?

I have a 22-year-old Trane system that is still functioning. During routine tune-ups, I am consistently informed about mold in my system and advised to get a $1500 air scrubber. With a newborn on the way, I've started to seriously consider this. My primary concern is preventing mold from being blown through the house. I've researched and it seems a UV light might be a more affordable and effective solution. I'm looking for other tips on how to protect my family from breathing in mold from the unit and ducts. My unit is upright. I'm also wondering about the benefits of removing mold versus cleaning it and then installing a UVC lamp.
