Is $975 to replace a worn out gas valve in an HVAC unit a fair price?
Project Details
My HVAC is close to 15 years old, but it's been running like a charm even through the cold winters of Chicago. Since I moved in a few years ago, I've already knew it will go someday and have money set aside. However, right now it's only the start of autumn here.. in an attempt to run it, the heat did not work. The HVAC turns on, it blows air but its not hot. The status light is green and flashes once which is signaling that there's either a weak flame or the flame is not igniting. Even at the price, though steep, I would totally pay it for convenience, but having to wait 2-3 weeks seems a little much. I'm wondering a few things given the age of my HVAC: Does it make sense to replace the entire unit since it's 15 years old? (no issues otherwise) Or does it make sense to get the gas valve replaced, pay that $975 and hope for the best? Or should I consider getting another HVAC tech to inspect it? And lastly, is it recommended to use the OEM gas valve? The unit is working excellent otherwise, it hasn't given me issues even though it lives in an external room on my balcony. It functions efficiently and heats/cools my 1200 sq ft condo.
