Is $2,700 to repair the AC unit by replacing the evaporator coil and related components a fair price?
Project Details
My AC wasn’t cooling as well, and it turns out my refrigerant is empty and I need to replace my evaporator coil. The unit was made in 2007, but the house was built in 2013. I am probably going to be moving out in 2-3 years, so I'm trying to decide if it's better to pay $2700 to repair it or replace the whole thing. I'm also wondering if I would need to replace my refrigerant lines to accommodate R410 vs R22.

Replace the evaporator coil
The current AC unit has rust on its case, at the connection of the evaporator coil to the drain pan, and rusty water in the pan. The secondary drain line is dripping rusty water. This quote is for: - Replacement: Entire evaporator coil - Warranty implication: American Home Shield will not warranty the new coil due to a mismatch with the existing outside unit. - Future consideration: A new evaporator coil will be required when the condenser eventually fails, due to refrigerant changes after December 31st.
