Is $6,000 to replace an AC compressor a fair price?
Project Details
My parents' AC recently stopped turning on. They found their float switch tripped, had a clogged drain line, cleaned it, and then everything drained, but the unit still would not turn on. I told them to get a second opinion, but they "really trust these guys" and were without AC in a 90 degree house, and just wanted it fixed. I have a feeling they never needed a compressor and were essentially "scammed" out of $6000 due to poor troubleshooting, and I'm wondering if a tripped float switch could have caused the Megohmmeter to read the compressor as bad.
