Is $280 to clean AC coils a fair price?
Project Details
I'm a new homeowner and three days after moving in, my AC unit iced up and stopped blowing cold air. I tried letting it thaw and checked the filter, but it didn't help. I found that if I run it with the panel off and the coils exposed, it works fine with minor condensation. I called an emergency technician who charged me $160 for the visit. He checked the outside unit and hooked something up to the line, saying all the numbers were good and my air filters were pretty clean. He claimed the only issue was dirty coils causing a bad heat exchange. I'm not a handyman, but I'm trying to learn, and I'm questioning if the $280 quote for cleaning the coils is fair or if it's something I can do myself.
