Is $2,000 to replace a Goodman AC compressor a fair price?

Last week, I noticed my AC had been running for a while, which was unusual given the mild high 80s temperatures in the desert near Palm Springs. The vent was blowing room temperature air. We had this 4-ton Goodman unit installed about 4 years ago after buying the house, replacing the original 1986 unit under a home warranty, and it seems like we've had issues with it. I'm generally very happy with the company servicing it now, as the original install company disappeared, and we didn't keep the home warranty after the first year. They previously replaced the whole system, including the furnace. I'm wondering if there's anything I can check to ensure the line set is the right size, and I plan to mention this when they return. This company has been great; they installed a mini-split for our main bedroom and offered the best price for the same equipment compared to other installers. The unit got pretty hard use early on, but we've made some efficiency upgrades like replacing sliding glass doors, so I'm hoping this repair gets it through for a while.
