Is $10,000 to replace a cracked heat exchanger in a 15-year-old furnace a fair price?
Project Details
My furnace is 15 years old. A company did a $25 check-up and claimed the heat exchanger is cracked, hanging a CO monitor from a vent which showed readings of 2-3 (I assume 2000 ppm). I think the quoted price of nearly $10,000 is crazy high. I am going to get a second opinion and am wondering if it might be better to get a new furnace instead. The first technician called in a second, more sales-oriented person. I personally saw the bore scope and observed some rust, but no actual cracks.
