Is $2,600 to replace coils in an HVAC unit a fair price?
Project Details
My HVAC unit is 12 years old and has been serviced twice yearly by the same company since installation. The capacitor was replaced a couple of years ago. During a recent routine maintenance visit, a new technician claimed the coils are going bad and recommended replacing the unit or, at minimum, replacing the coils for $2600. He suggested replacing the unit even before inspecting it, which made me feel he was trying to push a sale. He also added a small amount of coolant, which has never been needed before. I live in southern Indiana, specifically Southwest Warrick County. As a widow, I unfortunately find this kind of sales pressure to be a common theme with some service providers.
