Is $5,000 to install a 9k BTU Mitsubishi mini split in my laundry room a fair price?
Project Details
My laundry room lacks vents and gets very hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It used to be a separate room not attached to the main house, but the previous owners closed it in, creating a hallway to it. The nearest existing vent is in the kitchen. I considered extending the existing ductwork, but there's no crawlspace on that end of the house, and it would likely require drilling through brick. I'm also concerned about putting too much stress on my current 2.5-ton AC unit, which already serves 9 vents. An HVAC company confirmed the difficulty of extending ductwork. I feel the $5000 quote for the mini split is too high for the problem. I also explored window units, but my casement windows only open 12.5 inches, which is too small for standard units. Now I'm considering a portable or through-the-wall air conditioner.
