Is $1,800 to install a UV light system to kill mold in the unit a fair price?
Project Details
I had a new unit, furnace, and ducts installed less than 2 years ago. The company that installed it provides free summer/winter checks. During a summer check, the technician showed me pictures of a small amount of mold on the inside of the blower in the hallway. He said it would get worse unless a UV light was installed to kill the mold, as it grows in cold, dark, and damp conditions. I questioned why the company didn't install a UV light initially, and he explained it was an add-on. I am questioning if this is a standard installation or if I am being overcharged. I did not go with the UV light, and the quote price is valid for 3 months.
