Is $370 to repair a central air unit and furnace blower fan a fair price?
Project Details
My central air unit and furnace blower fan stopped working. A company came out, and the repair involved replacing a bad capacitor in the AC and a blown fuse in the furnace. The total time spent on the job was about 15-20 minutes, and the parts cost less than $30. I was charged $370, which seems very expensive compared to past experiences and average hourly rates of about $150. The bill did not break down costs well, only showing a driving fee and a combined parts and labor cost. My dad's usual technician passed away, and another company we tried to call didn't get back to us. This company charged an $80 driving fee, which is disappointing as we saw another place advertised a $0 service fee. I feel this price is high for the simplicity and short duration of the repair, especially considering the lower cost of living in our area compared to places like California or New York.
