Is $1,050 to replace Lennox 1500m thermostat a fair price?

My current Lennox 1500m thermostat screen has gone out, and this is the second one I've had. I understand it's discontinued, and the replacements are the S40 or S30. I've received quotes of $1,050 to $1,200 for replacement, which seems high. I'm considering if an Ecobee would be a more cost-effective and functional alternative. My furnace is a Lennox SLP98UH090XV36C-03, about 12 years old, and I also have a newish AC unit. I'm concerned about the efficiency difference between the S40 and S30 and if the higher cost of a Lennox replacement is justified. This is in Canada.
