Is $1,100 to replace the condenser fan motor and perform repair work a fair price?
Project Details
My AC system's condenser fan motor stopped working. The current condensation unit is a 15-year-old Trane XR13. The motor in the unit is a 1/4 hp 1075rpm. I am fairly mechanically inclined so replacing it myself isn't out of the question, but I'm unsure how well a universal motor would hold up. I later found that the run capacitor might be the issue, and I was able to "jump start" the motor, which is now running smoothly. I plan to find and replace the correct capacitor myself to save money. I'm new to home ownership and have questions about universal motors, their longevity, and where to purchase them online, as Trane's website seems to redirect to local AC companies for sales.
