Is $2,200 to seal ducts in attic and basement to eliminate humidity a fair price?
Project Details
My house is 3400 sq ft and 13 years old, located in coastal northeast Massachusetts. I have a 3-story house. The first floor has an older AC condenser with indoor parts in the basement. The second and third floors use a Bosch IDS 2.0 heat pump, with the air handler and furnace in the attic space on the third floor. When my AC runs, the humidity in the house stays between 50% and 60%, and sometimes even goes up. The tech performed a test where running just the fan on the upstairs unit caused the humidity to increase by 3 degrees within 10 minutes on both upstairs floors. They diagnosed the problem as unsealed ducts around the return to the unit in the attic and also in the basement, causing the unit to pull in hot/humid air from those spaces and preventing proper dehumidification. I'm looking for a sanity check on this quote and appreciate any advice or similar experiences before proceeding, as I want to solve this humidity problem.
Quote Details
This quote is for sealing unsealed ducts around the return to the unit in the attic and in the basement. The issue was diagnosed as the AC unit pulling in hot, humid air from the attic and basement spaces due to these unsealed ducts, which prevents the unit from adequately dehumidifying the indoor air. The work involves manual labor using tape to seal the identified leaks. The service will be performed by 2 technicians for an estimated 4-6 hours.
