Is $6,000 to replace a furnace a fair price?
Project Details
An HVAC company came out and locked out my furnace because of high CO (500ppm) coming out of the flue. The technician said it was a cracked heat exchanger and immediately quoted me for a new furnace. I asked him to check for CO in a vent, which was 0ppm, but he still insisted it was a cracked heat exchanger and didn't do any further diagnostics. I personally don't think it's a cracked heat exchanger since there's no CO in the conditioned air; I suspect it might just need the burners cleaned or fuel adjusted.
