Is $10,500 to install closed cell spray foam in attic walls a fair price?
Project Details
I am seeking a sanity check on this quote for closed cell spray foam in my attic, as I have never had to price this out before. I have another quote in the works. There is no existing insulation in the attic. HVAC for this space is not a concern, as there is a dedicated unit just for that area. I installed a new roof last year in preparation for this project. My house is 125 years old and has "real 2x6s," which provides an extra half inch for insulation. I plan on finishing the attic space next year. After some research, I'm debating if baffles are required for this type of insulation in a conditioned space; the quote does not include them, and I didn't know to ask. My house also doesn't have soffit vents, and I'm unsure about the cost or process of adding them. My main goal is to add insulation, as anything is better than nothing.

Spray foam attic with open-cell insulation
This option includes the removal of existing blown-in insulation and the application of open-cell spray foam insulation to the attic roof line. This type of foam is considered standard in the South due to its performance in hot-humid climates. It offers several benefits over closed-cell foam, including: - Safer Moisture Behavior: Allows the roof deck to dry inward and reveals roof leaks. - Avoids Structural Stress: Flexible and low-density, it does not shrink or pull on roof decking. - Better for Retrofit Fit & Air Sealing: Expands significantly (approx. 100x) to fill gaps completely. - Easier to Modify Later: Soft and easy to remove for future work. - More Cost-Effective: Achieves excellent thermal and air-sealing performance for significantly less money.
