Is $3,978 to vacuum, air seal, add baffles, and replace attic insulation a fair price?

Project Details

My accessible attic is about 700 sq ft, and my home was built in 1984. The insulation has likely never been replaced. I'm looking at quotes to get the attic insulation up to R-60. I'm trying to decide if it's worth the extra $1500 to remove and replace the existing insulation versus just adding on top. I'm also wondering how the existing insulation looks. A thermal scan near all recessed lights showed red, indicating heat loss, which is included in both quotes.

Quote Details

This option includes a complete removal and replacement of attic insulation to achieve an R-60 rating. It addresses heat loss identified by a thermal scan near recessed lights. - Vacuum existing insulation - Perform air sealing - Add baffles - Install new insulation to achieve R-60
