Is $2,780 to demo a closet staircase, install a pull-down ladder, and create two closets a fair price?
Project Details
I hired a general contractor for a job that was supposed to take 2-3 days but has now extended to week 4. The contractor demoed a closet staircase but never came back to complete the rest of the work. He also did not remove the demo debris, which is still at my home. I paid $1,800 ($800 deposit, $800 midway after demo, and $200 for additional lighting work). He left equipment and materials at my property. He is threatening fees for cancellation based on a contract I never saw, received, or signed, and he refuses to send me a copy. I am debating suing him in small claims court for the uncompleted work and am unsure how to handle his equipment. I gave him an ultimatum to finish the work by a certain Friday, or return the money paid minus the demo/materials, but he failed to show up again. I have since hired a new contractor to complete the work.
