Is $5,000 to replace treads and encapsulate risers and stringers on an attic staircase a fair price?
Project Details
These are attic stairs, so they are not commonly used, but they are very worn. I am not comfortable with remediating lead paint and clean up, nor am I comfortable removing and replacing the treads myself. I'm seeking advice on whether encapsulating the risers and stringers will be sufficient, especially since risers can be kicked and scuffed. I'm also wondering if the paint is too far gone for encapsulation and at what point a full replacement would be worth it. I'm considering if I could glue some material on the risers for further protection.
