Is $14,500 to install a new asphalt driveway, repair and paint porch surface and stucco, and install new fencing and gate on porch a fair price?

I already paid for this project and am now asking for advice for future projects. On the last day of the project, the contractor informed me that their office had incorrectly calculated the square footage for the driveway in the signed contract (95x9 or 660 square feet). I had already paid a 50% deposit. The contractor initially requested an extra $1,350, but we settled on an additional $1,000. The contractor mentioned that the mistake would have been deducted from his pay. The contractor and crew were very professional and diligent throughout the weeks of work, even through extreme weather. They have also returned multiple times to fix or touch up things at my request, and I feel comfortable asking them for further adjustments. Their work was generally very good. I am now wondering if I should have refused the additional charge, if this situation is common, or if I was taken advantage of. I now understand the importance of checking the math on contracts.
