Is $8,700 to excavate exterior and seal problem spots a fair price?
Project Details
I live in a house built around 1999 in Michigan. For a few years, I've had problems with water entering my basement after heavy rains, despite my sump pump working. I've used water alarms but now want a permanent fix as I'm tired of worrying about flooding when I'm away. My basement is partially finished with carpet tiles and interior walls, used as a play area and two WFH spaces. Water primarily enters at the well inlet pipe (~2 feet above the floor, near the sump pump) and secondarily from the floor/wall joint on the opposite side of the house (this seems limited but could get worse). I'm leaning towards exterior excavation but am concerned about future leaks elsewhere that an interior drain might prevent. An interior drain system would also require significant furniture relocation. I plan to address downspout extensions and grading regardless of the chosen quote.

Install a sub pump and connect to exterior downspout
I have an encapsulated crawlspace with a concrete floor that experiences water puddling in one corner after extensive heavy rainfall. A crawlspace encapsulation company representative provided an estimate for a solution, stating that a permanent fix for groundwater entering from the main water lines entrance might not be possible from their end, and a plumber's exterior fix isn't guaranteed. Their proposed solution includes: - Install a new sub pump in the affected corner of the crawlspace - Connect the new pump to the exterior downspout in the same corner to divert water away
