Is $40,000 to replace siding with vinyl a fair price?
Project Details
My home has cedar shake siding installed over white painted clapboard. The shakes have holes, attract yellowjackets and woodpeckers, and are likely points of water infiltration. I was quoted $40k for complete siding replacement to vinyl, which is completely out of my budget. I am wondering if I can remove the shakes, fill nail holes in the clapboard, paint, and go back to the original siding. The clapboard looks to be in good shape where visible, but I expect to find issues. I will also have to replace the soffit to match the new gap. I am thinking of a top-down, DIY approach.
