Is $5,500 to remove popcorn ceiling a fair price?
Project Details
I hired a younger, newer handyman and his crew to remove popcorn ceiling in my 2000 sq ft house. The job was projected to be completed in five days. I paid 1/3 first then 2/3 when the popcorn was fully removed. As the week went on, I realized they were getting lazier and not covering walls and floors well. My house was empty except for one room with moving boxes, which they hardly covered, resulting in plaster dust everywhere. They also ruined a fan. They arrived late and left early with long lunches. After removing the popcorn, they started filling holes and sanding, but drywall tape was peeling. They then skipped cleanup and joint compound, and started spraying primer. I got them to "clean up" a little on Monday, then I fired them. My main concern is the state of my freshly bought house; I feel like it's ruined. I already have health issues and am afraid to live in it. I got a new crew to finish and spent $400 on cleaning supplies, but I'm worried about the extensive dust and feel it will cost me another $1000 for professional cleaning, which I don't have. I don't know how to get rid of all this dust because they hardly covered my walls.
